Does Sam’s Club Accept EBT? Yes, Online Too

Does Sam’s Club accept EBT? Yes. SNAP EBT works at club registers, in Scan & Go and on online orders for Curbside Pickup and delivery.

You need a membership to use it, though SNAP households can join at a discount. And hot food, including the Cafe menu, is off the table.

Paying with EBT in Scan & Go

Scan & Go takes EBT, so you can skip the checkout line with SNAP benefits too. Sam’s Club’s Scan & Go help page lays out the steps.

  1. Tap Check Out and add your EBT card details.
  2. Choose EBT card as the payment method before you tap Slide to Pay.
  3. Enter your four-digit PIN.
  4. Show the QR code the app generates at the exit.

Select EBT every time. The help page warns that if you don’t, the app charges your default card instead.

Pickup and delivery orders take EBT too

SNAP works online as well. Sam’s Club’s SNAP EBT page says benefits “can be used online for eligible items with pickup or delivery,” whether you order on the website or in the app.

Sam's Club SNAP EBT page answers saying SNAP EBT benefits can be used online for eligible items with pickup or delivery, and that SNAP EBT and EBT Cash are accepted for online pickup or delivery orders in all states where available

Checkout takes your PIN, just like a register. Add the EBT card to your account wallet before or during checkout, and you can check the balance and choose how much SNAP to spend before you pay.

The card shows up on the Review Order screen only when the cart holds eligible items. If it’s missing, select Edit payment there and add it.

SNAP pays only for the eligible food, so a mixed cart needs a second payment.

Each order takes just one SNAP EBT card. Sam’s Club also accepts EBT Cash on online orders in every state where pickup or delivery is available.

Meat and other items sold by weight are charged on an estimate, and a 10% weight debit may be added. If the final weight costs less, the difference goes back to the card.

Shipped orders are the open question. The SNAP page talks only about pickup and delivery, so check the payment options on the Review Order screen before you count on SNAP for an item that ships.

Two other Sam’s Club pages still say EBT doesn’t work online. The membership offers page says SNAP works “at all club locations and with Scan & Go but not for SamsClub.com purchases,” and the terms and conditions list EBT only among in-store payment methods.

I’d go with the SNAP page, since it’s the one built for this question and it spells out the checkout. Sam’s Club’s SNAP help article and its accepted payment methods page back it up, both listing EBT for online orders.

What SNAP covers at Sam’s Club

Sam’s Club marks eligible items online with a “SNAP EBT eligible” tag, and search has a filter for them, which makes it easy to check before you go or before you check out. Most groceries carry it, and so does the $23.84 custom half sheet cake.

Hot food is the big exception. Propel’s SNAP guide notes that benefits don’t cover hot prepared food sold ready to eat, such as hot rotisserie chicken, pizza or hot dogs. That rules out the Sam’s Club Cafe menu.

The rotisserie chicken shows the line clearly. The hot $4.98 bird carries no SNAP tag, while the cold Rotisserie Chicken Bites and rotisserie chicken salad in the same category online are tagged eligible.

The usual SNAP limits apply to the rest of the club too. Alcohol, tobacco, vitamins and supplements, pet food, fuel at the Sam’s Club gas station and household goods like paper towels all need another form of payment.

New state limits on soda and candy

Some states changed the rules in 2026. Under USDA waivers, Indiana, Utah, Idaho, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Texas, Florida, Arkansas and Ohio began restricting SNAP purchases of soda, candy or both this year, MLive reported in July. Florida’s rules, for example, cover soda, energy drinks, candy and prepared desserts, according to Propel.

The list keeps moving. More states are scheduled to follow, and a federal court blocked five states’ waivers in June, so check your own state’s SNAP rules before a big drinks run.

Online orders handle this for you. Sam’s Club applies the rules of the state where an order is picked up or delivered, and changing the club or address after ordering can change which items qualify.

The SNAP membership discount

SNAP can’t pay the membership fee, since benefits only buy food. Sam’s Club offers a discounted Club membership to people in assistance programs instead, verified through ID.me on its membership offers page.

The window that runs through October 19, 2026, prices it at $20 after savings, against $60 for a regular Club membership. By my math, that’s two-thirds off.

  • Qualifying programs include SNAP, TANF, SSI, Head Start, the school lunch and breakfast programs, LIHEAP, Pell Grants, certain public housing and certain state Medicaid programs.
  • It’s for new members only, and anyone with a membership in the past six months doesn’t qualify.
  • The membership renews at the full price unless you turn off auto-renew.

The assistance offer isn’t unique. In the same window, ID.me showed the same $20 price for seniors 60 and older, teachers, students, first responders and the military, so anyone in more than one group gets no extra discount by stacking them.

Returning items bought with EBT

Returns work a little differently for SNAP purchases. EBT purchases have to go back at the membership desk, not through the newer curbside returns, and a SNAP refund goes back to the EBT card rather than as cash or a gift card, under the Sam’s Club return policy.

Bring the receipt or the membership card you shopped with, so the desk can find the purchase and send the SNAP portion back where it came from.
