Does Sam’s Club Take Apple Pay? Tap to Pay Is Rolling Out

Does Sam’s Club take Apple Pay? In clubs, yes. Sam’s Club’s terms, updated October 20, 2026, list Apple Pay and Google Pay for in-club purchases, and the Tap to Pay readers that take them are due in every U.S. club by the end of 2026.

Tap to Pay reached select clubs on August 24, 2026. Until your club has it, pay with a card, since Sam’s Club takes every major credit card, including American Express, which Costco warehouses don’t.

Online orders are a different story, because SamsClub.com and the app don’t list Apple Pay at all.

Tap to Pay is rolling out

Walmart announced on August 21, 2026 that Tap to Pay was coming to Walmart and Sam’s Club. Members can check out with an eligible contactless card, phone or smartwatch.

The announcement doesn’t name Apple Pay, but MacRumors reported the same day that the rollout covers Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay. Sam’s Club’s own terms caught up on October 20, 2026, adding Apple Pay and Google Pay to the list of in-club payments.

  • Select clubs got Tap to Pay starting August 24, 2026.
  • Every U.S. club is due to have it by the end of 2026.
  • Sam’s Club fuel stations come last, by mid-2027.

Neither the announcement nor Sam’s Club’s help pages name the clubs that already have it, so look for the contactless symbol on the card reader. Members can also add an eligible Sam’s Club credit card to a phone’s digital wallet, the release says.

Payment methods Sam’s Club accepts

Sam’s Club’s accepted payment methods page lists all major credit cards drawn on U.S. accounts with a physical billing address. International credit cards aren’t accepted in clubs or online.

That help page doesn’t show Apple Pay or Google Pay yet, even for clubs, though the terms now list both for in-club purchases. Neither appears for samsclub.com or the app, so plan on a saved card for online orders.

Walmart gift cards count as Sam’s Club gift cards here. The same page lists Walmart and Sam’s Club gift cards as accepted both in clubs and online, which makes a Walmart gift card an easy present for a Sam’s Club member.

SNAP EBT works in clubs, with Scan & Go and on pickup and delivery orders, as our guide to EBT at Sam’s Club explains. Benefits cards like OTC Network and Healthy Benefits+ are in-club only.

American Express at Sam’s Club

Sam’s Club takes American Express in clubs and online. It has since October 1, 2015, when Amex cards became accepted at more than 650 clubs, as One Mile at a Time reported that day.

That’s a real difference from Costco, whose warehouses take Visa as their only credit card. If your best rewards card is an Amex, Sam’s Club is the club where you can use it.

The card that earns the most here is still Sam’s Club’s own Mastercard. It pays 3% back in Sam’s Cash on Sam’s Club purchases for Plus members and 1% for Club members.

Scan & Go and the pumps

Scan & Go charges the card saved in the Sam’s Club app, and it takes SNAP EBT too. That makes it the closest thing to paying by phone at clubs that don’t have Tap to Pay yet.

At the pump, Scan & Go is the phone option for now. You scan the QR code on the pump screen, pick a card in the app and confirm its security code. Walmart’s timeline puts Tap to Pay at fuel stations by mid-2027.

Gift cards work at the pump only if they have a magnetic stripe, since barcode-only cards can’t be scanned there.

Apple Pay through Instacart

Apple Pay also works on Sam’s Club groceries delivered by Instacart. Sam’s Club’s Instacart page says Instacart accepts Apple Pay and Android Pay for same-day delivery from a local club.

The trade-off is price. The same page says Instacart prices run higher than in the club, so you’re paying extra for the delivery and the wallet.

Splitting a bill

Clubs let you split one purchase across several cards and payment methods. Online is stricter, according to Sam’s Club’s split payment page.

  • SamsClub.com won’t split an order across two credit or debit cards.
  • It will combine one card with Sam’s Cash and up to five gift cards.
  • The app doesn’t accept a split between two cards.

Refunds follow the money. In clubs, Sam’s Club refunds to the original form of payment, and online returns go back to the card you were charged, under the return policy.
