Sam’s Club Party Trays and What They Cost

A buffet table with a fresh fruit tray, a vegetable tray with ranch dip, pinwheel wraps and a cookie platter, with the headline What a Party Tray Really Feeds

Sam’s Club party trays cost about $14 to $38 each. A fruit or vegetable tray runs about $15 and serves 6 to 8 people, while the biggest trays cost $35 to $38.

Those are samsclub.com prices at a Dallas club. Most deli trays are sold by weight, so the price on your receipt can land a little above or below the listed one.

Plan to order a day ahead for pickup, or two days ahead around the holidays.

These are the Member’s Mark trays on Sam’s Club’s party tray page for the Dallas Timber Creek Crossing club, with serving counts from each tray’s own listing. The page notes that prices may vary in club and online, so check your club in the app before you plan a budget.

Sam's Club party tray listings with a fresh fruit tray at $14.92, a vegetable tray at $14.25, a 44 piece sushi tray at $25.17 and a charcuterie tray at $29.14
Sam’s Club

Six of the nine trays are priced per pound. The fruit tray, for example, shows $14.92 as an average price at $4.44 a pound, with the final cost set by the weight of the tray you get. That works out to about 3.4 pounds of fruit.

Fruit, veggie and cheese trays

The fresh fruit tray and the vegetable tray cost the same $4.44 a pound, and both are prepared in the club every day.

  • The fruit tray can include grapes, cantaloupe, pineapple, strawberries, honeydew and blueberries, depending on the season.
  • The vegetable tray can include broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers, mini peppers, tomatoes, celery and carrots around a cup of ranch.
  • The fruit and cheese trays mix fruit with cheese cubes, at $4.98 a pound in both sizes.

That shared price per pound matters for the bigger tray. The Fruit and Cheese Party Tray costs exactly twice as much as the regular Fruit and Cheese Tray, $34.86 against $17.43, so there’s no bulk discount for buying the large one.

Two regular trays serve 12 to 16 people by their listings, against 12 to 14 for the party size. I’d buy the two small trays, since they cost the same and are easier to fit in a fridge.

How many people a tray feeds

Go by each tray’s listing, not by the general answer on Sam’s Club’s party tray page.

The page’s FAQ says large fruit or vegetable platters can accommodate 20 to 25 guests, and small sandwich or pinwheel trays serve 8 to 12. The fresh fruit tray’s listing and the vegetable tray’s, in the same club, say each serves about 6 to 8 people.

For 25 guests, the listing numbers point to three or four fruit trays, not one. By my math that’s about $45 to $60 of fruit instead of $15.

With the listing numbers, every tray lands between about $1.80 and $3.30 a guest. The vegetable tray is the cheapest way to fill a table, and the shrimp tray costs the most per serving.

Sandwiches, pinwheels and shrimp

Sam’s Club’s sandwich options are the Chicken Salad Croissant Tray and the Assorted Pinwheel Wraps Party Tray.

The croissant tray holds five chicken salad croissants with lettuce for $14.20, and its listing says it serves about 5 to 7 people. That’s closer to a family lunch than a party.

The pinwheel tray is the big one. It has 40 pinwheels, 20 buffalo chicken and 20 sun-dried tomato chicken, made with oven roasted chicken, roasted red peppers and provolone. At $37.66 that’s about 94 cents a pinwheel, and an Instant Savings deal takes $2 off each package through November 12.

Pick pinwheels up close to the party. One reviewer on the listing picked up a tray the evening before and found the wraps mushy the next day, after buying good ones straight from the case before.

The shrimp tray comes with cocktail sauce and holds about 5 servings, according to its listing. At $16.45 it’s the priciest tray per serving on the page, at about $3.29 each.

Charcuterie and sushi

The 44 oz Member’s Mark Charcuterie Entertainment Tray costs $29.14 and pairs meats and cheeses with olives, spreads, mixed nuts and crackers. Its listing says it serves about 10 to 12 people, and it’s the best rated tray on the page, at 4.84 stars from more than 6,600 reviews.

Sushi is made in the club by an onsite sushi chef. The Akita tray costs $25.17 for 44 pieces, which is 10 each of four California-style rolls plus 4 pieces of shrimp nigiri, with wasabi, soy sauce and ginger.

The other sushi trays, at $25.97 and $34.97, showed out of stock at the Dallas club, so availability changes through the day.

The sweet trays come from the Sam’s Club bakery and cost about $20 each.

Dessert trayPriceWhat’s on it
Assorted cookie tray, 84 ct$19.93Oatmeal raisin, chocolate chunk, mini candy, white chunk macadamia
Holiday cookie tray, 60 ct$19.93Five seasonal flavors, 12 of each
Gourmet brownie tray, 24 ct$20.9324 brownies
Breakfast platter, 40 ct$20.93Five pastry flavors

The 84-count cookie tray is the value pick at about 24 cents a cookie. It holds 36 mini candy cookies plus 18 oatmeal raisin, 18 chocolate chunk and 12 white chunk macadamia.

The holiday tray costs the same for 60 cookies, 12 each of red velvet, s’mores, vanilla shortbread, chewy ginger and turtle brownie. It’s a limited-time tray, so expect it only through the season.

For a bigger dessert, a custom sheet cake feeds more people per dollar than any tray.

Ordering ahead

Sam’s Club recommends ordering party trays at least 24 hours in advance, and 48 hours during peak holiday seasons.

  1. Open the party trays section in the Sam’s Club app or on samsclub.com, with your club selected.
  2. Add the trays to a Curbside Pickup order. The fruit tray listing showed pickup as soon as the next day.
  3. Pick a pickup time at least a day out, or two days out near a holiday.

The same listings also offer delivery in as little as an hour. That works when the club has finished trays in the deli case, so it’s fine for a last-minute snack tray but risky for a planned event.

Every tray on the page carries a SNAP EBT eligible tag. For allergies, note that Sam’s Club says all trays are prepared in a common kitchen area, even the cheese and nut options it calls gluten-friendly.

Best value for a crowd

For a party of about 20, I’d start with two vegetable trays and two fruit trays, about $58 for up to 32 servings by the listings. Add the charcuterie tray if you want something heartier for $29.

Skip the shrimp tray for a crowd. Five servings for $16.45 disappears fast, and the money buys a whole extra fruit or veggie tray.

For a main course, a few of the Cafe’s $8.98 whole pizzas stretch a tray budget further than the pinwheels do.
